History

Dr. John Dameron founded Dameron Hospital in Stockton in 1912 with facilities for 20 patients. Ill health prompted him to sell the organization to a group of local doctors, staff, and businessmen in 1925, and expansion in 1927 brought bed capacity up to 55.

The hospital was incorporated as Dameron Hospital Association in 1943, becoming an independent, not-for-profit medical facility governed by a seven-person board of directors and a 20-member board of membership.

Today, we remain uncompromising in our approach to patient care—health care attitudes we’ve had from the very beginning. And with over 800 employees on staff, we’ve gone from just serving the community to being a large part of it.

Dameron Hospital was founded in 1912 by Dr. John Dameron with room for 20 patients. In 1943 it was incorporated as Dameron Hospital Association, an independent, not-for-profit community hospital governed by a local board of directors.

For more than a century, Dameron has grown with Stockton — adding cardiac, orthopedic, surgical, and emergency services to meet the needs of San Joaquin County.

In December 2024, Dameron began a new partnership with American Advanced Management (AAM), an organization focused on restoring and strengthening community hospitals.

Today, Dameron is one of two STEMI Receiving Centers in San Joaquin County and a Primary Stroke Center in collaboration with Stanford Health Care. Our mission remains the same as it was in 1912: high-quality care, close to home.
